Plants and play
The design for enhancing the stone wall while providing a functional play area involves a blend of strategic planting and thoughtful layout.
To create dramatic curb appeal, we introduced a variety of vertical plants along the stone wall. Taller species such as ornamental grasses or columnar evergreens add height and texture, contrasting beautifully with the defined edges of the home. To soften the look, we incorporated flowering plants that will provide seasonal interest and color, drawing the eye along the wall.
For the play area, it was essential to balance aesthetics and functionality. The designated space is framed by low-maintenance shrubs and flowering perennials, creating a natural boundary that remains visually cohesive with the surrounding landscape. Inside this area, a durable ground cover of engineered grass ensures safety while also being soft and inviting for play. A small climbing structure, combined with nearby seating for supervision, creates a whimsical yet practical environment. This cohesive approach not only enhances the overall attractiveness of the property but also ensures a safe and enjoyable space for the client’s daughter to play.
“Matt is very knowledgeable and passionate about his craft, much more that the typical gardener or landscaper. He’s willing to spend the time necessary to learn your needs, iterate with you on the ideas, and finally be closely involved through the project. His prices are also quite competitive.””
