A mixture of new and exotic materials.
For this San Francisco residence, we meticulously removed 30 yards of sandy soil to create three distinct levels of outdoor living areas. The first level showcases a combination of a deck, walkway, and steps, all crafted from sustainably harvested ipe hardwood, commonly known as ironwood. This rainforest hardwood provides durability with a fire rating comparable to that of concrete, ensuring safety and longevity.
On the second level, we designed a sand set flagstone patio that features ground cover planted in the joints, enhancing the natural aesthetic. Tumbled Mexican pebbles line the seams, adding texture and contrast to the outdoor space.
The third level is dedicated to a synthetic turf lawn that offers zero maintenance, providing a lush green space year-round without the need for mowing or watering. This design balances elegance with practicality, creating an inviting environment for outdoor activities.
