Children’s Therapy Garden

Outdoor Whimsy

Creating a whimsical garden designed as a healing space for a child therapy practice involved careful planning and an intentional selection of elements to foster a peaceful, therapeutic environment.

The central feature of the garden is a spiral, planted with an array of fragrant herbs. This not only provides sensory stimulation through scent but also encourages interaction, allowing children to step on and explore the herbs freely. The spiral design promotes movement and exploration, essential for engaging young minds.

To enhance the playful atmosphere, we integrated kinetic art pieces that invite curiosity and encourage children to engage in imaginative play. The gently moving art captures attention and encourages mindfulness, making it an ideal feature for a therapeutic setting.

Japanese fishing buoys were thoughtfully incorporated into the design, adding a pop of color and a sense of whimsy. These buoyant elements create a visual pathway through the garden, guiding visitors while also sparking conversations and imagination.

A birdbath was strategically placed to attract local wildlife, adding life and movement to the garden. The presence of birds can have a calming effect and provides an opportunity for children to observe nature, further promoting relaxation and healing.

Surrounding the garden is an outdoor “office” space designed for privacy and comfort. Soft drapes can be adjusted to create an intimate setting, allowing for confidential conversations while remaining connected to the natural surroundings. This space allows therapists to work comfortably and gives children a safe environment in which they can express themselves.

In this garden, every element is carefully curated to promote healing, foster creativity, and connect children with nature, creating not just a whimsical garden, but a safe haven for growth and therapy.
